About John Clapham
Welcome, I am the Director of Cotelic, I provide our consultancy, coaching and training services.
I have over 25 years’ experience in the software development industry, with almost 10 years working with and sharing Agile methods. My specialism is working with teams and individuals to raise their performance, typically through coaching, facilitation, introduction and enhancement of Agile ways of working.
I have broad experience which helps me understand the pressures that individuals and organisations face as they work to improve their capabilities, and the unique challenges of software product development.
I spent my early career as an IT systems administrator, moved into open source software development and then on to leading and coaching teams. I’ve worked at scales ranging between startups to SME and enterprise, among them organisations such as Microsoft, Nokia and HP. Along with teams I’ve built web and enterprise applications in many domains, including publishing, legal, telecommunications, commerce, defence, Gov.uk and public sector arenas.
I’m Based in Bristol, in the United Kingdom.
I’m often asked to write and talk about the things I do and experience. This talk, “The Reluctant Change Agent’s Guide” is typical of my style. I’ve spoken at many conferences; nothing focuses the mind, or encourages thorough research like presenting ideas in front of hundreds of experts in the field. You can learn more about my talks and topics in the talks page.
I’ve also presented talks at four different DevOps Days conferences and I am co-creator of one of the first practical DevOps workshops, Experience DevOps.
I’m a member of the Scrum Alliance, a Certified Scrum Professional, Scrum Master and Product Owner.
I love to learn and evolve my skills, and the Agile community has played a big part in my development, and keeping my skills right up to date. I like to contribute back to the community through talks and organisation.
I’m one of the organisers of a South West Agile group, the Bath Scrum User Group.
